Having a conversation with a client or colleague doesn’t just have to be over coffee. In fact, it doesn’t even have to be indoors in Penticton. From bistros, to outdoor café patios, to retro diners, breakfast meetings can happen in a booth, or on the beach.
The Bench Market on “Vancouver Hill”, as locals call it, not only has great coffee, like the coconut mocha, but breakfast choices with a bit of a twist. The Eggs Benedict creations come on top of soft baguettes with a side of sweet potato hash. Egg-wiches are great for the outdoor patio, where often cyclists congregate. Grab a hearty breakfast burrito and your java, and take a short hike down the hill to meet in the quiet of the Japanese Garden. Need a refill or some strudel? Hop over to the Prague Café for a European pastry.
Main Street in Penticton’s downtown offers a few quirky choices. The Elite Restaurant — you can’t miss the neon sign — is a step back to an earlier era, with classic diner fare that’s served fast. The Saint-Germaine Café and Gallery is a mix of art and gourmet java with rotating art shows sure to start a creative conversation, and coffee art for your morning Instagram post. Down the street, all-day breakfast can be had at The Bellevue; try the spicy breakfast wrap.
Need to fuel up for the day, and maybe take some leftovers back to your desk? Terry’s Comfort Food with Attitude is just that. Renowned for its sizable portions, the breakfast bowls should cover you for breakfast and a late afternoon brunch. Or pack up part of a five-egg omelette. Lineups are common, but a few blocks away is Shades on Main with its Mexican-inspired dishes, strong coffee, and the option of driving up for breakfast to go.
A calmer breakfast meeting with a view…the Penticton Lakeside Resort is perfect, especially when the weather permits patio seating right next to the waters of Okanagan Lake. The Bufflehead boasts a Starbucks and breakfast indoors or out till 1pm. Then, grab some baked goods, and walk along the beach before firing open the laptop for the afternoon.
